1.2.0 · Revised and expanded Volume One

A Borrowed Name begins again.

Volume One returns as a substantially rewritten illustrated edition, beginning with Ethan at the Ash and Lantern and carrying Jack through his first steps into Thornfield.

  • Replaced the former Prologue with the new Ethan close-third version and re-anchored its three illustrations to the revised scene.
  • Rebuilt the public reader around Volume One's eleven sections and twenty-five approved illustrations.
  • Moved downloadable EPUB and illustrated PDF editions to Patreon-exclusive release while leaving the complete Volume One web reader open on Ark Forge.
  • Shelved the prior Volume Two package and replaced it with a teaser for Patreon-first episodes planned every few weeks.
1.1.2 · Chapter title leaves

The chapter furniture gets out of the story's way.

Ordinary chapters now open like pages in a book, while the larger illustrated treatment marks only the beginnings of the two volumes.

  • Replaced the oversized green chapter banners with compact ivory title leaves so the prose appears in the opening screen.
  • Reserved the vine-framed presentation for the Prologue and Chapter Eleven, where each volume begins.
  • Removed repeated volume names, chapter titles, and section counts from the persistent navigation and chapter headings.
  • Simplified the contents drawer and kept the phone navigation to one row with full-size touch controls.
1.1.1 · Two-book shelf

The volumes become books of their own.

Thornfield now opens as a quiet, cover-led library instead of a launch blog or one oversized web volume.

  • Gave A Borrowed Name and The Other Emerald their own cover pages, contents, downloads, and visual identities.
  • Limited each chapter's contents drawer to its current volume and added an explicit handoff between Chapters Ten and Eleven.
  • Shortened ordinary chapter openings so the prose arrives sooner while preserving full illustrated openings for the Prologue and Volume Two.
  • Removed the standalone later-chapter prototype from the public shelf, leaving twenty chapter pages and forty-seven approved illustrations.
  • Rebuilt the Ark Forge front page around the two book covers without release panels, feature cards, or supporter messaging.
1.1.0 · Illustrated novel edition

The game gives way to the book.

Ark Forge now presents Thornfield as the illustrated novel it became: fixed prose, direct chapter pages, and an always-available table of contents.

  • Retired the gamified public interface and removed player choices, meters, saves, and simulated navigation from the live Thornfield edition.
  • Published Volume One, A Borrowed Name, from the Prologue through Chapter Ten, and Volume Two, The Other Emerald, from Chapters Eleven through Nineteen.
  • Added persistent contents, previous-and-next chapter navigation, shareable chapter URLs, and layouts made for phones, tablets, and desktop reading.
  • Kept the illustrated edition public and 18+, with no account or supporter gate.
1.0.1 · Ongoing-series correction

Finn won. Thornfield continues.

Finn's victory remains the closing movement of the full current release, but it is an arc ending rather than the permanent end of Thornfield.

  • Corrected the storefront, reader title, legal notice, and release notes so they no longer call Chapter 51 the end of the complete story.
  • Kept the same free 18+ public reader from the Prologue through Chapter 51, with no Patreon gate or sign-in.
  • Preserved every released chapter and Finn's exact closing victory; no narrative prose changed in this maintenance release.
  • Restored the ongoing-serial framing for Jack, Caleo, and the unfinished work beyond Finn's victory.
1.0.0 · Full public release

From the road to Finn's victory

The full 190,332-word current release became one free 18+ public edition, running continuously from the Prologue through Chapter 51, Leave Us Alone.

  • Released every approved chapter through the South Villa, household, garden, and final-duel sequence.
  • Preserved Finn's unaided victory, the registered protection order, his public recognition, and the locked final line: I won!
  • Ended the public-versus-patron edition split. The current explicit release requires no subscription or sign-in.
  • Retired reader-facing Patreon prompts and redirected old patron bookmarks to the public reader.
0.3.3 · Warmth update

The boys get to know each other

A Prologue-through-Chapter-34 revision adds more than 6,400 net words while rebuilding the places where the story rushed past danger, friendship, desire, and its own feelings.

  • Rebuilt the Prologue as embodied survival: the goblin fight, chosen mercy, costly healing, fallen-log shelter, and Caleo handoff now form one continuous danger arc.
  • Revised the early Academy chapters around Caleo's practical care, Jack's first full school day, the quill lesson, Finn's salt gesture, Edric's friendship, the fountain, and the bakery confession.
  • Repaired the early Kai intimacy and preserved the Chapter 14 cum question, secret box, broom slap, stiff sock, and comic room invasion without the cleaning-sitcom loop.
  • Rebuilt Chapter 13 as one chronological Monday and added The Table Gets Crowded to establish weeks of café meetings and growing friendship before the rescue.
  • Expanded the Caleo rescue, cabin action, medical work, Jade aftermath, healing, and Kai encounter with clear urgency and physical continuity.
  • Rewrote the Headmaster, Kai, Caleo, and Blackmere sequence so its emotional, romantic, and political pressure lands cleanly.
  • Added Caleo's first full close-third viewpoint chapter, The Whole Bakery Heard.
  • Rebuilt Steamy Humiliation, including fuller Weapons Practice and the complete shared-masturbation route in Finn close-third.
  • Separated Yarrow at the Park and River Snakes into complete chapters and let the boyfriend, Kai disclosure, forest truth, and river afternoon breathe.
  • Protected anatomy, clothing, injury, names, horses, garden history, and scene-to-scene continuity while removing false-choice and repeated-exposition loops.
  • The numbered release contains 106,384 authored-source words through Chapter 34. The 81,415-word continuation inventory remains draft material.

Project changelog

One place for release history

Added this project-based changelog so Thornfield releases, site changes, and paused experiments no longer share one shapeless update pile.

  • Release notes are grouped by project and can be filtered without leaving the page.
  • Project status is visible at a glance: active serial, active platform, or paused prototype.
  • The structure can survive projects being retired without rewriting the rest of the page.

An early bonded-fantasy experiment. It remains available for now while its future on Ark Forge is evaluated.
